Nope, it ain't over until it is over
The Shop Still Here? Woah!
Turns out the store never kicked the bucket, bro. It's still open for business. What died was my admin access, which freaked me out. I thought orders would freeze because I couldn't approve them. Classic case of assuming the worst, you know? But hey, at least it wasn't a total disaster.
Making Art, Not Money
So, I'm a creative type. I write weird stuff and post it on worldofwebb.net. I also do watercolors. FYI, most of the graphic design in this store? Yeah, that's all me. The thing is, these hobbies don't exactly pay the bills. You know, gotta eat and have a roof over your head, just like everyone else.
Living the Broke Boomer Life
It's fall 2024 as I write this, and let me tell you, the basic stuff you need these days is way more than what some pioneer dude had two hundred years ago. Smartwatch, smartphone, laptop with all the bells and whistles, car... the list goes on. I gotta maintain all that stuff, which means bills. Being a boomer middle-classer basically means post-millennial debt, amirite?
Government Cheese Ain't for Us
For years, I could have just given up and lived off welfare or some corporate job. You know, the whole "go to college, get a degree, get a boring office job" life. My family would've loved that. They'd finally approve of me, like, for real.
But here's the thing: some of us just don't fit that mold. We're a bit too wild, you know? Like, we love our independence way too much. Or maybe it's like we're wired to hustle and never stop. Whatever it is, we're not built for the cubicle life. And honestly, government handouts aren't really our vibe.
The Creative Hustle is Real
The cube rats think we don't have friends because we don't go to their boring boss's house parties. Like, seriously? We have tons of friends. They just have cool hair and wear tie-dye shirts. And hey, our grandkids are still rocking Grateful Dead stickers on their cars. We're not lonely, trust me.
And here's the thing they really don't get: we have our own way of making it work, even without the whole "normal job" thing. It's like, God has a soft spot for weirdos and dreamers, you know? Creatives are definitely dreamers. So yeah, God loves us. Which totally pisses off the cube rats, but whatever.
The same creativity and passion that makes us awesome is also what helps us succeed. When things seem like they're about to fall apart, that's usually when things turn around for us. It's not over till it's over, you feel?
We All Need Each Other
Not everyone is cut out for our messy, creative life. We need the cube rats to do their thing too, so we can focus on being, well, us. Without them doing their jobs, us creatives would have to ditch our social media and get real jobs. So, cube rats, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
The Bible (1 Corinthians 12, to be exact) says we all have different gifts. No one's gift is better than another's. We all have something to offer, you know? I used to waste time trying to explain why I'm like this. But guess what? This is just who I am. Now that I'm nearing retirement age, with no set career path, my hobbies have become my mission.
This mission, to kind of annoy the cube rats and avoid getting stuck in a boring job, became my life's purpose. I need you, cube rat, to do the stuff I just can't handle. Back in the day, I totally trashed talked cube rat jobs. But now, I respect the heck out of you guys. You make my life possible.
So, Here's the Update
Summer sucked. My health went wonky and almost ruined my little bit of normalcy. I totally pictured myself on the streets, pushing a shopping cart overflowing with my stuff. But plot twist! Both my laptops are up and running, the lights are on, there's food in the fridge, and the internet gods are still smiling on me. Plus, insurance hooked me up with some cash so I snagged a sweet new ride. Talk about things turning around, right?
Basically, I've been healing all summer. Now what? I'm just eight posts away from hitting my goal of 365 posts on worldofwebb.net. Finishing those eight posts is definitely my next move.
For income, I'm planning to write, paint, do graphic design, and sell some dope t-shirts. Not choosing a traditional career path turned into my whole story, you know? And honestly, I feel pretty blessed by the life I've built.
I'm hyped for the success of this store and leaving a legacy that's all mine. Totally gonna crush it!
